CRAID DAVID - BORN TO DO IT

Born to Do It is the debut studio album by English singer Craig David, released in the United Kingdom on 14 August 2000 by Wildstar Records and in the United States later in 2001 by Atlantic Records. Following exposure from his work with British group, David began performing vocals for garage duo Artful Dodger.

Born to Do It is a 2-step garage and R&B album, backed by electro beats, garage and hip hop. Upon release, the album was met with positive reviews from music critics.

Commercially, the album was a success, eventually selling over 7.5 million copies worldwide, making it one of the biggest albums by a UK R&B artist. The album debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart, becoming the fastest-selling debut album ever by a British male solo act, and eventually being certified 6× Platinum in the region. DIANA ROSS - DIANA

Diana (stylized as diana) is the tenth studio solo album by American singer Diana Ross, released on May 22, 1980 by Motown Records. The album is the biggest-selling studio album of Ross’s career, selling nine million copies worldwide and spawning three international hit singles, including the US number 1 hit “Upside Down”. All songs are composed, played and produced by Chic members Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards.

The album spent 17 weeks at the top of Billboard’s R&B/Dance chart. Much like her previous studio album, The Boss, Diana gave her another No. 1 Dance album. Reaching number two on the Billboard 200 chart and number one on the Billboard Soul Albums Chart for 8 consecutive weeks, as well as yielding two top 10 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, including the number-one single “Upside Down”, the album would sell over one million copies in the United States and be certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.

In the UK it went Gold and spun off three successful singles; “Upside Down” (No. 2), “My Old Piano” (No. 5) and “I’m Coming Out” (No. 13). A fourth single, “Tenderness”, was also released in certain territories, reaching the top 40 in the Netherlands, and was later included on several greatest hits compilations. Surprisingly, despite its massive dance and dance radio success, none of the singles from Diana were remixed for promotional and/or commercial use while the album was current.

BETTY DAVIS - NASTY GAL

Funk and R&B singer Betty Davis was influenced by close friends like Jimi Hendrix and her ex-husband, jazz legend Miles Davis. In 1975, visionary music mogul Chris Blackwell signed her to his Island Records label, which released her groundbreaking album Nasty Gal.

Davis could use her vocal power for ballads just as easily as belting, and on Nasty Gal, she proved that she wasn’t a one-dimensional screamer. The song “You and I” marked her public reconciliation with her ex-husband, Miles Davis; the two co-wrote the song about their relationship.

Nasty Gal was poised to be Betty Davis’ commercial breakthrough, but it didn’t work out that way. She left the business shortly after its release and moved to Pennsylvania, where she still resides.
